Psssst! Wassup?

August 21, 2014, 0 Comments

This is a short post about a long journey, and one which explains my disappearance from the blogosphere for the past couple of months. Well… it all started with sinus. I don’t usually have sinus and it is pretty annoying when the nose is constantly blocked for no apparent reason. The next thing I knew I am feeling queasy over certain food when suddenly I threw up one day during lunch. Yep… you guessed it, its a bun in the oven! 5 pregnancies and 3rd kid on the way. Does life offers trials? Yes, in most cases. But for me,…

What inspires our children?

June 10, 2014, 0 Comments

I remembered as a child, the first person that left a deep impression on me professionally was a lady who emceed at a wedding. At 7 years old, my parents told me that lady was in public relations. I dreamt of becoming a public relations person one day & 16 years later, I did. After I got married and gave birth, I met one of Singapore’s well-loved lactation consultant. Her passion, expertise and professionalism left an indelible mark on me. She was a live wire. An inspiration to many many mums. As I go about educating my own children, I…

Spirit of Excellence! – Cold Storage Kids Run 2014

May 20, 2014, 0 Comments

The results of competitive run is out today! So much can happen within one minute, and it separates the winner from those who didn’t win, or does it? This is our second time taking part in the run. In a family of two boys, it is no wonder that we do sports alot, intentional or not. They are always running, jumping, on their bikes, kicking a ball, swimming, climbing and swinging about in the playground, you name it! The boys enjoy sports so much it is easy to teach them good sportsmanship through these activities. “Run as you would usually…

Mummy, who do you love more?

May 10, 2014, 0 Comments

Some months ago, the sons were comparing who I love most between them. It seemed apparent that the one I showed most affection was the one I loved most, and one of them would say to me “You don’t love me, mummy!” And I will, and has always said, “Of course I do, I just express it differently. Your brother is affectionate, and he likes hugs, so mummy give him hugs.” “I also like hugs.” The son will reply. And I gave him one of mine. This son does not initiate hugs like his brother does. But all children wants…

What are we depriving them of, really?

April 1, 2014, 0 Comments

Are students spending too much time on co-curricular activities (CCA)? Has our the society become so competitive that schools too are competing how many CCAs they can offer, and what CCAs are they best known for? Is it just sleep deprivation that we are robbing our children of? As some parents have reported, their children are leaving homes as early as 5.30am, only to reach home at 7pm, at least three times a week. That leaves them little time to catch up on their homework and even less time spent with the family. I have heard of stories where it…

You bounced!

February 8, 2014, 0 Comments

You bounce right out, you were fast, without a doubt and you still are 5 years on, you and your scooter, ahead of us I had to hold my breath while I hear my own heartbeat just to see if you remembered what I said because I don’t do reminders and I don’t do nag you did and you stopped before the traffic lights but, not good enough you cut it too close you were asked to stand by the wall not to move because it is bedtime not circus time son, no bouncing I said so back to that…

Mammoth task of organising

January 27, 2014, 0 Comments

If you’re a mum, you know there are endless organisation around the house. The kitchen; shelves for baking utensils, containers for various types of flour, there are at least five different types. And, yes, I painstakingly label each flour outside their containers. Then there are noodles; vermicelli, pasta variety, Chinese noodles, Japanese noodles snacks etc. Next comes snacks; biscuits, cereals, nuts, waffles, pancakes, seaweed, seeds etc. Rice variety;sushi rice, brown rice, white rice etc.Desserts packets etc. Laundry, detergents, all cleaning agents. My pet peeve has got to be plastic bags. Big ones, medium ones, small ones. There are those used…

Why less families are eating together

November 27, 2013, 0 Comments

Today, I was up early again because I had to go to the wet market. I hate waking up early, but I love the stillness of the dawn. Hence, waking up early is always a dilemma. Once I am out of the front door, my heart felt lighter. I love the fresh air, the quietness in the air that brings out a song stored in the recesses of my subconscious mind. I remember friends I haven’t stayed in touch of late. I hear the soft chirps of birds that flutter by and it is easy to thank God I am…

Say no to all things that break up families

October 25, 2013, 0 Comments

By now, everyone knows who is Ashley Madison. No, she is not the girl with the innocent girl-next-door look. She is the sinister company that will attempt to tear down the very fabric of the nation. My husband and I are married for nine years. We sashayed through the first 4 years like two lovers sitting on the crescent moon. Tumbled into the next 2 years and barely made it pass the seven year itch. We fight and make up every few days, swept a hundred things under the carpet, and put sex on hold for a few months more…

Is online shopping kind to our wallet? ( comparison chart inside )

August 22, 2013, 0 Comments

With so many online services these days, I find myself checking to see if someone else is providing better service at a lower cost or if the service level is friendlier. Our family has yet again decided that we will try living without a lived-in domestic helper. Firstly, my sons are asking, sometimes begging me to do housework. I too think it is about time they up their chore skills like dusting and cleaning the toilets. They are now experts at cleaning up their toys after play and lessons, so I don’t need to have someone else clean up after them….
