Yogurt or me?

May 4, 2012, 0 Comments

Earlier during lunch, my elder son told me he was full, with what seemed like less than a mouthful to go. I suddenly recalled there was yogurt in the refrigerator and turned around and told him, “I will let you have the yogurt if you finish the noodle.” Opps, the moment I uttered those words, I knew it. I bribed again. According to Wikipedia dictionary, Bribery, is an act of implying money or gift giving that alters the behaviour of the recipient and a reward is often money, offered as an incentive. So I decided to run a test between…

Major clean-up inside out

From the hubs: Eight years ago in Feb, I decided to spend the rest of my life loving her. We were generally happy to be with each other. We worship God, parent our children, and maintain the household pretty well together. If marriage would simply be measured by these activities, I would say we were normal. We have been married for 8 years. My oldest son is already 5. Time flies. I can only vaguely remember our first fight after we got married. It was over a book. We ordered a book and it came in a mail. I was casually flipping the book, when the hubs cautioned me “Be careful not to open book too wide, the pages will fall out!”. I glared at him. Then when he took the book later, I said “be careful with the book, keep it from having dog ears!”. How a trivial matter could spark a fight, I can’t…

Emotional Intelligence – Can it be learnt?

My eldest boy turned 5 this year. We decided to ask him how he would like it if we celebrated his birthday with those less privileged. He was really excited and talked about it for days before the event. As a family we believed that it is more blessed to give than to receive. It is good to look out for the interest of others and consider their needs in our interaction with them. The i-generation we lived in today is self-seeking, self-absorbed and largely self-centred. My husband made a comment once, when a Government turn housing into a form…

Free things

It seemed that when it comes to free things, human beings usually react in two various extreme. Just this past week, we had a free cone day from a particular ice-cream brand. Many Singaporeans were seen flocking to the various outlets, making a beeline for a most wonderful day out. It reminded me of the first time a young child is being brought to an amusement park. I remembered my young children at the Universal Studio for the first time. Not knowing what money represents or how much the entrance tickets might cost us, they lapped up every ride and…
